  • Society/future

Richard Cope is a Senior Trends Consultant who’s goal is to open up audiences to the opportunities presented by future trends and in particular how to help businesses successfully transition towards greater responsibility and sustainability.

He seeks to do this by quantifying the future, providing insight on where consumer needs are growing and how to activate against them. Along the way he provides inspiration by showcasing best-in-class campaign and product innovations, scientific breakthroughs or stimulating artistic pieces. Wherever possible, Richard illustrates his presentations with his own photographs and anecdotes and offsets the tension that can arise with some of the challenging subject matter with humour and empathy wherever possible.

Richard has two decades of experience in macro trends, market research and futurology, and is passionate about being a trends commentator, whether that be through making conference, webinar and podcast appearances, publishing thought leadership pieces, building brand strategy or exploring new consumer research projects. In his project work Rochard helps clients to apply trends strategically, examining future market opportunities around issues as diverse as E-health, urbanisation, renewable energy and the world’s ageing population, but his core passion is sustainability.

Richard is the author of Mintel’s annual Sustainability Barometer survey, he oversees their global sustainability research and is a graduate of the University of Cambridge’s Institute of Sustainability Leadership’s Business Sustainability Management programme. Outside of work he lives in Winchester with his wife and young son, volunteers for the Marine Conservation Society and enjoys snorkeling, diving, canoeing, football, vinyl record collecting and cinema.
